Scoring Elk
Hello all, I apologise if this kind of question has been asked on here before but I've been getting a little lost lately. I got myself a rather large Roosevelt elk scoring 351.6927 and I wanted to check my photo of it vs the B and C score. It claimed it had 2 abnormal points on the left antler and 2 crown points on the left antler. First things first, why did the total for abnormal and crowns go to 0 if these points were present or does it have to be on both antlers to yield a total? Second, I can't actually find these points, well only a few anyway. Can someone show me where these points supposedly are?

Re: Scoring Elk
Hello Modifly and welcome to the forum.
If you could post the scoresheet of this particular elk, there are folks here who would be happy to break it down for you so you can understand the scoring, me included. It's hard to explain the details of your particular situation without all of the data, and vague generalized explanations might be more confusing then helpful.
Regarding your second question, I have gone ahead and circled the abnormal points on your bull in the photo below. I can't see any crown points from your photo, although it's possible they're very small and on the backs of the tines so your photo may not show them. They just look like more abnormal points, but farther out on the main beam or growing off of the G5-G7 tines.

Also, this is the score data. Again you can see how despite having abnormal points listed, the total defaults to 0, same for the crowns?

Re: Scoring Elk
The abnormal points are typically found on the points that are not symmetrical and have a unique shape. The crown points are typically found on the top of the antlers above the normal points. It is possible that the scoring system did not count these points because they were too small or not prominent enough. If you are having difficulty locating these points, it might be helpful to compare your photo to photos of other elk or to a score sheet.Modifly1 wrote:Hello all, I apologise if this kind of question has been asked on here before but I've been getting a little lost lately. Re: Scoring Elk
I had a similar question concerning a mule deer. I dumped it on a full body mount in my lodge and photographed it there.
The dragon was able to clear it up for me.

Re: Scoring Elk
I'm sorry to bring this post back up again but I can't help but notice that a couple of kills I've had of varying species such as mule deer seem to not count the abnormal points if it only occurs on one side? Mule deer this time. Is this genuinely a rule or a glitch or still just not prominent enough?

Re: Scoring Elk
Also while I'm here, does the European deer such as Roe, Fallow and Red deer follow CIC standard or what?

Re: Scoring Elk
Tines need to be over 1 inch to count for anything, including as a point or abnormal.Modifly1 wrote:I'm sorry to bring this post back up again but I can't help but notice that a couple of kills I've had of varying species such as mule deer seem to not count the abnormal points if it only occurs on one side? All three species you listed are scored using CIC scorecards in the game.

Re: Scoring Elk
Thanks. However How comes every Roe deer I've ever taken out has been within the gold trophy range of greater than 130? Or am I just that lucky (If only)?
