Sambhur stags are among the spookiest animals in the game.
Hunt them on foot in the trees and observe the crazy distances they will spook at even when you are moving at a crouch.
The really big ones are almost unapproachable on foot. If you aren't prone and ambushing them with scent they will bust you every time.
they are extremely susceptible to movement.
Get out of those stands and hunt like a man.

This is still an intriguing question as far as I'm concerned. The previous comp I was doing required a shotgun so I wasn't using the snakebite. But I'm back to using the winter camo snakebite tonight. Of the four big Sambar stags I've had come in so far, when I pulled out the bow as the third one was coming in, he whipped his head around to look straight at me for a split second, then shook his head and continued walking in.
