Rifles | .308 Bolt Action Rifle
.308 Bolt Action Rifle
This is a superb rifle for medium to large size game. It features a smooth straight pull bolt action system to lets you intuitively chamber another round for quick follow up shots. This model is a sleek looking carbon version that makes all other rifles look old and grumpy.
See it here in the store.

Re: Rifles | .308 Bolt Action Rifle
"Harvest another male Rocky Mountain Elk with more than 12 typical points using any ethical rifle ammunition." Used the 308 ammo that was from rifle ammo section, shot it out of a 308 pistol, mission did not count.
But overall I think this gun performance is poor, just so many better guns, but quick reload and fire speed which is nice.

*Lighter ammunition
Cons
*Limited Optics selection
*600em$
*.308 Winchester ammunition (this is a separate argument altogether)

First off, let's handle the .308WIN ammunition topic.
The current .308WIN in-game is as "weak" as it is because it needs to also be used with the .308 handgun.
It will be game breaking if there was a 200m+ HANDGUN, so the current .308WIN ammo is balanced for the handgun.
My suggestion is to introduce another .308 ammo specifically for the rifles, but that's a discussion for another time.
Despite the ammo, I'm starting to like this rifle a bit more every hunt I use it.
I bought it when it came out a couple years ago, used it a few times, and was disappointed by the lack of penetration.
I can't even penetrate a Moose's skull at 60m in the Archery Addictions range in RFF.
After I adapted hunting tactics, I've found the .308WIN to be like the .303 BRIT and .30-30 (IRL, the three are similar), with better optic choices.
You need to pinpoint the vitals and keep shots closer if you can.
You are also going to get a lot more body shots, but those body shots to the vitals will lead to a kill more often than not.
My main complaints for the .308 bolt action -aside from the ammunition- are the limited scopes and pricing parity.
The other generic "Bolt Action Rifles" also have the 3-9x40 and 4x32 scopes.
Personally, I'd like the 3-9x40 or 4x32 scope just to help me "reconsider" getting closer for cleaner kills.
Additionally, 600em$ seems a bit much for the limited performance compared to the other 600em$ options in the marketplace.
I'd say 550-575 em$ is a better price point since it's not a "long range" rifle, but is still the minimum for "big game" hunting.

It works in the .308 rival handgun missions for brown bear and red deer although it may take a second shot.

Re: Rifles | .308 Bolt Action Rifle
Rated good out of local patriotism, just for the fact that it's modeled after a Merkel RX Helix made in Suhl.
StG44 and MPi-KM was produced there. Also all the parts for Wieger assault rifle, in Wiesa they where just assembled.
Suhl is a town in the Thuringian Forest / Germany famous for weapon production since the 16th century....The Merkel RX Helix has become one of the straight pull sporting rifles by which others are judged. The action with its 2:1 gearing is somewhat more complex than a conventional bolt action rifle: but of course a Porsche automobile is rather more complex than a Toyota sedan. Indeed if we compare rifles to automobiles then the Merkel RX Helix is without doubt in the Porsche class: it is a high performance machine with a strong aesthetic appeal. The Merkel RX Helix also has the distinction of being one of few rifles offered with models specifically designed for women shooters. Additionally the RX Helix can also be had in either right or left hand versions. The Merkel RX Helix appears to have most of the bases covered when it comes to providing a sporting rifle that will suit the needs of most sportsmen and women. Added to that it is one of the fastest straight pull rifles extant.

...The metal processing of Suhl naturally led, during the Renaissance, to other major local industries, including gunsmithing and armoring. Suhl was a major producer of cannons throughout the seventeenth and subsequent centuries, and Suhl cannons were used by many European powers. A major arms company that was located in Suhl for almost 200 years was J.P. Sauer und Sohn GmbH, producer of hunting rifles, shotguns, and pistols, such as the Sauer 38H, until moving operations to Eckernförde at the end of World War II.
Other prominent firearms manufacturers in Suhl included:
* Simson (also known as BSW and then Gustloff Werke under Nazi rule and Ernst Thälmann Suhl under Communist rule),
* Waffenfabrik August Menz, noted for having produced in the 1920s the Liliput pistol, one of the smallest semiautomatic handguns ever made.
* C.G. Haenel.
* The largest manufacturer producing firearms currently in Suhl is Merkel GmbH, who make both rifles and shotguns.

Re: Rifles | .308 Bolt Action Rifle
I gave it a poor rating due to the ammo. It could be a diamond in the rough like all the other .308 weapons if not for the under powered ammo.

Re: Rifles | .308 Bolt Action Rifle
Bloody useless. I refuse to use any 308 any more. Considering the fact that it the ammo was introduced as well capable of taking down moose at its release, it has since been so badly downgraded that it will now only single lung a Red broadside at 20m.
Old hunters never die. They just sit around the campfires and tell the biggest lies.

*.308 Nosler Partition - Rifle Edition Update*
Rated: Average > Excellent
After the introduction of the .308 Ammo Rifle Edition, this rifle handles almost like the .30-06 Lever Action: quick cycling, accurate firing, and effective wounding.
I just had to change my rating from Average to Excellent.
It is probably the best "all-around black rifle" in the game now.

Re: Rifles | .308 Bolt Action Rifle
Also my review will change from average to excellent, the new ammo makes this an all round rifle now, from coyote to moose.
