Yeah, not cool to have a game change in the middle of one of these. It's happened before - but we all are in the same boat. If anything, those who've gotten a majority of their hunts in maybe a slight advantage - but that's kind of how life rolls for real - anything at anytime can slap you upside the head whenever it feels like.
In the old days, beta testers would've caught the issues before a release. Even with an update, doesn't rule out a patch here and there. But these grouse were really dumb and Hirsch hunted differently that the other 2 reserves for me. Hem and VDB seemed like 90% males 250m apart. Hemm they wandered all over but on VDB they ran in a circle up against the base of the high mountains. So not only their numbers (which I didn't think was odd) and their AI, but their pathing needs work. I had a couple nice groups a few times on Hirsch but only singles on VDB and grp's of 2-3 on Hemm but more scattered. That's kind of what I experienced.
